Council of Global Governors

The mission of the Council of Global Governors and the Executive Committee of the Council of Global Governors is to represent CHEST and advance its mission around the world.

Executive Committee of the Council of Global Governors

The Executive Committee of the Council of Global Governors is a small, strategic group of individuals, appointed to assist with furthering the global strategy and efforts of the organization. This group reports directly to the College Board of Regents and is vetted and approved by the Governance Committee. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Advise and assist leadership and staff in driving and implementing the global strategy, as outlined in the strategic plan;
  • Oversee and advise roles, responsibilities and engagement of the Council of Global Governors;
  • Advise and assist leadership and staff in developing strategies to grow the number of international members;
  • Advise and assist the CHEST Foundation in its efforts to raise awareness and reach the international community;
  • Advise and assist the CHEST® Editorial Board in its efforts to increase readership and article submission amongst the international community;
  • Facilitate interactions and collaborate with industry in the international arena to further common goals and initiatives;
  • Provide insights and facilitate stronger relationships with local and regional societies internationally;
  • Assist with regional education opportunities, including providing contacts for endorsement and building connections;
  • Advise and assist leadership and staff in developing enduring products and education that would appeal to the international community; and
  • Advise and assist leadership and staff in promoting relationships with international training programs.

Terms

The Executive Committee is made up of five to seven members, including a Chair who serves a term of 2 years and serves as an Ex-Officio member of the College Board of Regents. Each member of the Executive Committee serves a term of 2 years, with the option of renewing for an additional term if relevant to the upcoming plans of the organization and deemed appropriate by the Governance Committee. Initial terms of the members of the Executive Committee will be staggered to ensure continuity.

Meetings

The Executive Committee meets annually at the CHEST Annual Meeting and during relevant sister society meetings, pending availability.

Council of Global Governors

The Council of Global Governors serves is a large, inclusive group of individuals, with a goal of building connections and fostering CHEST ambassadors around the global community. The Council reports directly to the Executive Committee of the Council of Global Governors, and candidates are vetted and approved by the Governance Committee.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist leadership and staff in encouraging a strong international presence on CHEST social media platforms;
  • Reach out to delinquent and dropped members in your region and encourage individuals to renew his/her membership;
  • Reach out to welcome new members in your region and encourage them to get involved and take advantage of member benefits; and

Terms

Each Governor will serve a term of 2 years and is eligible for up to two reappointments.

Meetings

The Council meets annually at the CHEST Annual Meeting.
