Council of Global Governors

Mission: To represent CHEST and advance its mission around the world. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies to expand CHEST’s educational programs and membership.
  • Advise and assist CHEST leadership and staff on developing and producing educational activities and materials appropriate for their country and region.
  • Advise and assist leadership and staff on promoting relationships with international training program directors to advance training standards.
  • Identify potential CHEST partners from local and regional professional societies, CME providers, medical schools, health-care professionals, and industry.
  • Identify and recruit local CHEST members to participate in CHEST activities.
  • Contribute to CHEST Physician, CHEST blogs, and other media outlets reporting on local activities and advocating for global programs.
  • Provide semiannual summaries of accomplishments and activities.
  • Play an integral role in developing, participating, and recruiting attendance at CHEST World Congress.

Council Composition

The Global Nominating Committee will select Governors from among qualified applicants:

  • One Governor/country with 50 or more members
  • Up to 29 additional Governors-at-Large from any country

Each Governor will serve a term of 2 years and be eligible for up to two reappointments. The Council Chair and Vice-Chair will serve a 1-year term and be selected by the Global Nominating Committee. 


The Council shall meet annually at the CHEST annual meeting and have teleconference meetings, as necessary.


The Council is accountable to CHEST Board of Regents representing CHEST and its membership.
