President’s Message
On behalf of the CHEST 2009 Program Committee and the ACCP leadership and staff, I invite you to attend and participate in CHEST 2009 in the vibrant city of San Diego, California. This meeting will mark the beginning of the 75th anniversary celebration of the ACCP and the threshold of the World Health Oranization’s Year of the Lung. The CHEST 2009 Program Committee, under the leadership of COL Lisa K. Moores, MC, USA, FCCP, ACCP NetWorks, and members-at-large have developed a world-class educational program in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine, emphasizing collaboration, teamwork, and communication.
This year, you can learn how telemedicine can be used to address issues related to quality, cost, and access to care. Don’t miss the keynote address on Monday, November 2, when Jay H. Sanders, MD, President and CEO of The Global Telemedicine Group, will present an analysis of how telecommunication and information technologies can dramatically improve the process and outcome of health-care delivery for both the patient and practitioner. Further explore how you can use this form of communication to improve patient care in a simulated electronic ICU.
Under the guidance of Ed Dellert, RN, MBA, Vice President, Educational Resources, CHEST is evolving from lecture-only format to one of attendee participation. CHEST 2009 will again feature the ACCP Simulation Center, where you can practice patient care and enhance your cognitive, technical, and behavioral skills in a hands-on, clinical environment. Solve unusual or difficult-to manage cases with input from a panel of clinicians, radiologists, and pathologists during interactive clinical case puzzlers. Participate in newly offered problem-based learning sessions. Small group exercises will be conducted, so you can discuss and solve cases with the larger group and multidisciplinary moderators, enabling you to learn from the experiences of other clinicians. Cases will be based on ACCP evidence-based guidelines to promote and reinforce standards of care.
Continue your education experience in the all-new exhibit hall, renamed the Clinical Resource Center and redesigned to better complement your learning needs. The center will serve as an extension of CHEST 2009, where industry representatives expand on session topics to present the latest diagnostic and treatment solutions. Also, visit the Health Information Technology Pavilion in the exhibit space to learn the full potential of using health-care technology systems to enhance your patient care.
San Diego is an ever-popular meeting location, and the combination of location and educational opportunity should make this a priority in your CME program. I look forward to your participation and contribution to the programs at CHEST 2009.
