"The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated." - Mark Twain
Since the announcement of the iPad, the technorati are writing off the Kindle as already obsolete. But hold up there, Frances, the race ain't done yet. What til you hear what Amazon is doing.....
So as soon as the Apple iPad was announced by Steve Jobs, bloggers around the world were writing eulogies for the Amazon Kindle. But rather than lay down and get fitted for the coffin, Amazon has surprised everyone by purchasing a company that makes touchscreen technologies. NY Times reported on TouchCo being bought by Amazon on Feb 3.
So all the focus since last month's iPad announcement has been about how Apple and Google will be battling to the mobile device finish line. But wait, Amazon still has a little something left in the tank. It appears then that Amazon is looking to build their own touch-screen e-reading device. The question is, will it keep the Kindle and Amazon's e-book retaling presence relevant and viable, or will it be too late?
Amazon's move is good news to me. I happen to like my Kindle. Well, for 2 more months, anyway.
