Say Aloha to CHEST 2011 in Honolulu

Aloha!

I just returned from the CHEST 2011 Program Committee meeting and wanted to share a few observations and experiences. First of all, it was cold in Chicago (even for a Canadian), and knowing that CHEST 2011 will be held October 22 - 26 in Honolulu, Hawaii, made it feel even colder. That didn’t stop Dr. Kevin Chan, CHEST 2011 Program Chair, from starring in a most “professional” promotional video for the Honolulu meeting—you need to check this video out (it's posted to the right, just click on it to play it, and we also have a time-lapse video of the committee at work here). You can also access the clips on the ACCP Facebook page here (and be sure to "Like" the ACCP Facebook page if you haven't already!). For those of you who can appreciate what Kevin had to tolerate during filming (ie, you’ve been in a snowball fight), you’ll be pleased to know the CHEST 2011 Web site is live, with more information being posted regularly as details are finalized, and it should help you get a good start on planning your travels to Hawaii.

CHEST 2011 is going to be a special meeting. Opportunities that will allow attendees to enjoy Hawaii will be plentiful. Additional postgraduate courses following the main conference in Honolulu will be held on other islands, which will enable attendees to visit an additional island to Oahu if they choose. Sessions will be scheduled such that everyone will be able to experience the feel of sand between their toes in the afternoon heat. The social events and the atmosphere will ensure that every member of the family will be smiling. CHEST 2011 will be memorable.

Most importantly, everyone will notice that the sessions and the speakers are the very best the world has to offer in clinical pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine. Kevin and the entire Program Committee, as well as the staff of the College, are working hard to ensure that goal is achieved. A great meeting and a great location —it doesn’t get much better than CHEST 2011.

We would be interested in hearing your thoughts on what might make CHEST 2011 in Honolulu special for you. Let us know what you think and what we might do to make it even easier for you and others to attend. In the meantime, I’m going to go find my Hawaiian shirts (be sure to bring yours!), and then go outside—I’ve got snow to shovel…
