The original YouTube video "Social Media Revolution" which I featured in my very first "It Ain't Rocket Surgery" blog post back in December (see it here), opened a lot of people's eyes -- and minds -- to the fact that social media is not a fad. Not to disappoint you summer sequel movie fans, its creator Erik Qualman is back with updated statistics to make the point that social media are here to stay. Here is "Social Media Revolution 2 (Refresh)":
So as a doc, your practice or health care system or institution's department of medicine may be considered your brand. As more consumers spend time online ranking and commenting about everything they do, including going to their doctor(s), more and more physicians are paying attention to how they can use social media and the internet to monitor and promote their practice/health care system/institution. Do you know what your patients are saying online about your brand?
This blog, "It Ain't Rocket Surgery" is intended to help busy health-care professionals find useful online and mobile resources that will enhance their self-education and professional research efforts, or point out important topics of discussion related to online information and content. The blog's title is a Yogi Berra style mash-up of two common phrases, "it ain't brain surgery" and "it ain't rocket science". I hope it will be casual, fun, insightful, and -- most of all -- educational.
I currently serve ACCP as the Senior Vice President of Communications, as well as the Executive Editor of CHEST, the ACCP’s flagship journal. During my 15 years here, ACCP has focused on growing and developing the editorial, technological, and business aspects of the College. We are constantly striving to make the journal and other ACCP educational content as accessible and useful to clinicians as possible.
When not at work, I like to spend time scuba diving with sharks, collecting original comic book artwork, exploring the digital world, and searching for good BBQ.
Your feedback about the blog is always appreciated. So are tips on good BBQ joints.

Not only the doctors but also other categories of people with different profession are spending time for there online ranking. Social Media has been one of the best place to advertise the business. But if the customers or lets say clients know the quality of your work than certainly you will not need to go for the online ranking and also other ranked people will come to your service in no time. The provided video is really educational. Internet is a best and relevant way to learn things and discuss with more people. so I think we should use that for the same purpose.
Steve you're absolutely right on point. People who think social media is a fad probably thought the telephone was a fad. While it will certainly evolve and change, it's better to learn and adapt. I think you're doing a great job of helping people achieve that more quickly.
