The Nominating Committee will meet during CHEST 2011 in Honolulu, Hawaii to propose a nominee for the position of President for 2013-2014. Nominations can be made through August 26, 2011.

President for 2013-2014

  • 1-year term as President for 2013-2014, commencing at CHEST 2013
  • Follows the term served by Darcy Marciniuk, MD, FCCP

President

The President performs all duties set forth in the ACCP Amended and Restated Bylaws, including serving as the Chair at all meetings of the Fellows, Board of Regents, and Executive Committee; guiding the Board through discussions, deliberations, and decision making; representing the College before the medical community at-large and before federal government agencies and private organizations; appointing College representatives to civic, professional, and governmental organizations, as may be required, to execute the business and affairs of the College; and reviewing and approving nonbudgeted expenditures in the event the Executive Committee is unable to convene, and reporting actions taken as soon as is practical. The President must be willing and able to devote extensive time, often on a daily basis, to the College. Prior to assuming the position of President, the selected candidate will serve 1 year as President-Designate and 1 year as President-Elect.

Qualifications

The office of President is open to all ACCP Fellows (both US and international) who meet the following qualifications:

  • ACCP leadership experience, such as service on the Council of NetWorks, Council of Governors, Board of Regents, or The CHEST Foundation Board of Trustees
  • Professional respect in the medical community, as evidenced by at least two letters of recommendation that meet the requirements outlined below
  • Skills and leadership as a practicing physician, academic clinician, researcher, or allied health professional;
  • Commitment to promoting diversity and international involvement in ACCP activities
  • Advanced communication skills and ability to be a spokesperson for the ACCP
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS AND NOMINATIONS PROCESS
Candidates must submit a one-page vision statement, a minimum of two letters of recommendation from active Fellows of the ACCP, a curriculum vitae, and responses to the ACCP Presidential Candidate Issue Analysis. Recommendation letters may not be from the current ACCP President, President-Elect, or any member of the 2010-2011 Nominating Committee.

Candidates who meet these qualifications, as determined by the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Nominating Committee, and who submit the required documentation by August 26, 2011, will be invited to be interviewed by the Nominating Committee on Saturday morning, October 22, 2011, at CHEST 2011 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
