Fundamentals of Airway Management: Skills, Planning, and Teamwork
ACCP Simulation Center for Advanced Clinical Education
July 19, 2012
Northbrook, IL
This 8-hour course is designed for providers who want to develop, refresh, or advance their knowledge and skills in common airway management situations. Our experienced faculty provides learners with an overview of airway anatomy and the exam findings associated with a difficult airway. Special considerations in the preparation, approach, and pharmacology associated with airway management in the critical care patient are also covered in detail. Learners also receive extensive hands-on intubation experience with direct laryngoscopy, both individually and as part of an airway team. Participants will employ essential crisis resource management principles to maximize the effectiveness of their airway team during simulated clinical scenarios and will receive a brief introduction to available airway adjuncts that can be employed when initial intubation attempts are not successful.
No prerequisites are required to take this course.

ACCP Learning Categories
ACCP Learning Categories organize all ACCP education activities based on how education is delivered to promote a wider variety of educational methods. The sessions presented during Fundamentals of Airway Management: Skills, Planning, and Teamwork are clearly labeled to identify the type of instruction and methodology used, so you can determine how the presentation will meet your learning style and educational goals. ACCP Learning Categories have no predetermined requirements and will automatically be reflected on the ACCP’s online CME certificate. The six learning categories are:
ACCP Learning Category I: Lecture-Based
ACCP Learning Category II: Self-Directed
ACCP Learning Category III: Evidence-Based
ACCP Learning Category IV: Case- and Problem-Based
ACCP Learning Category V: Simulation
ACCP Learning Category VI: Quality Improvement
Maintenance of Licensure
The ACCP Learning Categories are further subcategorized into “Maintenance of Licensure” (MOL) areas. The subcategorization is very helpful for applying CME to state requirements. All of the sessions in this program are classified as MOL: Scope of Practice-Critical Care Education.
