Mechanical Ventilation 2012

Overview

Mechanical Ventilation 2012
August 21, 2012
JW Marriot Desert Ridge Resort & Spa
Phoenix, Arizona
Co-Chair: Neil R. MacIntyre, MD, FCCP
Co-Chair: John D. Davies, MA, RRT

This course will emphasize evidence-based information during case management presentations and discussions. The use of graphic displays of airways mechanics to help clinicians optimize mechanical ventilation support for difficult-to-treat patients will be addressed, along with common problems, such as providing ventilation support for the patient with severe obstruction and COPD or the hypoxemic patient with ARDS.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisite courses for this event.

Objectives

  • Discuss the principles and modes of mechanical ventilation.
  • Analyze ventilator graphs to identify changes in lung mechanics and optimize patient ventilator synchrony.
  • Evaluate strategies to optimize mechanical ventilation in both obstructive and restrictive disease processes.
  • Determine when and how to best discontinue mechanical ventilation.
