Mechanical Ventilation

The ACCP Mechanical Ventilation Program Certificate of Completion provides learners with hands-on experience troubleshooting mechanical ventilation, describing basic features of positive pressure breathing, exploiting ventilator graphics using equation of motion, and identifying key determinants of ventilator-induced lung injury. Become an expert at determining conventional settings for treating acute respiratory failure, as well as integrating new strategies for providing life support while simultaneously protecting the lung. Participants may choose to take individual courses, but an ACCP Certificate of Completion is awarded only to those who meet the performance, proficiency, or passing standard of the assessments.

Fundamentals of Mechanical Ventilation for Providers

This 1-day course for hospitalists, intensivists, advanced practice nurses, and respiratory therapists is designed to immerse the learner in ventilator waveform graphic monitoring and interpretation, ventilator troubleshooting and patient care, and comfort optimization. Learners also participate in simulated experiences where they will diagnose and resolve a variety of issues with the patient-ventilator interface.

Mechanical Ventilation: Advanced Critical Care Management

This comprehensive interactive program on mechanical ventilation emphasizes practical solutions for issues with patients experiencing respiratory failure. Further your knowledge and clinical skills in this 2-day immersion in high-fidelity simulation. The course will consist of interactive discussions, hands-on small group workshops, case-based exercises, modes of ventilation, interpretation of waveforms, and information on the effects of pharmacologic agents. The use of graphic displays of airways mechanics will be emphasized to help clinicians optimize mechanical ventilation support for difficult-to-treat patients. Common problems, such as providing ventilation support for the patient with severe obstruction and COPD, or the hypoxemic patient with ARDS, will be addressed. Evidence-based information will be highlighted during case management presentations and discussion.

Online Learning Modules

Supplement, strengthen, and refine your ACCP mechanical ventilation course work by participating in this intensive online series designed by experts in the field of critical care mechanical ventilation covering waveform graphics and interpretation. These cutting-edge, interactive, multimedia e-learning tutorials cover essential components of mechanical ventilation. Stay tuned… modules are currently in development and will be added to this certificate program soon.

2. Pass a final comprehensive assessment exam administered at CHEST 2012.

Successful performance on an examination is the final component to the program requirements and can only be completed after each prior program requirement has been met. Exam dates will be announced soon.

Ventilation

This Certificate of Completion program provides:

An assessment-based certificate that fulfills the quality standards set forth by the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE) and the ACCP.
Instruction and training to acquire specific knowledge, skills, and/or competencies associated with intended learning outcomes.
Evaluation of the intended learning outcomes.
A certificate awarded only to those participants who meet the performance, proficiency, or passing standard for the assessment(s).

Target Audience

For hospitalists, intensivists, and critical care practitioners.
For bedside intensivists, hospitalists, pulmonologists, critical care physicians, advanced practice nurses, and respiratory therapists who routinely deal with mechanically ventilated patients in the ICU.
Fellowship program directors who require faculty capability in mechanical ventiliation to train to their fellows.
Those interested in providing a highly immersive, structured, and professionally produced mechanical ventilation simulation training program in their own institutions.
