Simulation Workshop
Managing Challenging Acute Pediatric
Respiratory Emergencies
Attend this interactive simulation workshop to
improve your clinical skills and comfort level with
initial management of challenging acute respiratory
emergencies. Emphasis will be placed on optimal
bag mask ventilation (BMV) technique and the use of
airway adjuncts. After this session, you will be able to
manage the first 5 to 10 minutes of acute respiratory
failure while additional help arrives.
This rapid learning session will use various
instructional strategies, including task trainers,
human patient simulators, and case-based
discussion. The course faculty has extensive
experience in emergency airway management
of infants and children, and includes experts in
pediatric emergency medicine and pediatric critical
care. Several faculty members also have extensive
background and training in medical education to
help maximize your learning experience.
Workshop Objectives
- Describe the factors that can predict a potentially
difficult airway in children.
- Demonstrate the correct use positioning and oral/
nasal airways to optimize airway patency.
- Demonstrate proper technique with BMV, including
the sequential steps for optimizing difficult BMV.
- Apply your knowledge and demonstrate your skills
in simulation scenarios.
