Candidates for Discharge to Non-ICU Long-term
Ventilatory Assistance Include:

Patients with chronic hypercapnia PaCO₂ (> 50 mm Hg) during the day, particularly when secondary to neuromuscular disorders where PaCO₂ (> 50 mm Hg) may be too high a criterion.

Patients who develop symptomatic nocturnal hypercapnia, even in the absence of daytime hypercapnia.
