Consensus Statements
Management of Spontaneous Pneumothorax
Interactive Web Site
Welcome to an interactive Web site for the management of primary and secondary spontaneous pneumothoraces presented by the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP).
Management recommendations presented on this site derive from the consensus guideline "Management of Spontaneous Pneumothorax" developed by the ACCP and published in CHESTThe Cardiopulmonary and Critical Care Journal (Chest 2001; 119: 590-602). This electronic version of the guideline presents clinicians with:
- an interactive management and educational tool that presents guideline recommendations for specific patients;
- the consensus tables from which the published guidelines were derived; and
- management algorithms.
All of the management recommendations provided on this site are cross-referenced with the published consensus guideline.
Physicians applying the recommendations for patient care presented on this Web site should consider the clinical assumptions presented to the guideline developers and the unique problems presented by individual patients. A guideline is general recommendations for care and cannot anticipate the special circumstances of individual patients. The ACCP and the guideline developers assume no responsibility for the outcome of patients managed with the assistance of these guidelines.
