Persistent Airleak Management
Duration of observation of a persistent airleak before proceeding to definitive treatment
4 days (median of 4 days, interquartile range of 3 to 5 days, middle 80% of 2 to 6 days)
Intervention options
Option 1: Surgical approach: > 75% choose thoracoscopy approach (very good consensus)
Option 2: Rarely: Chest tube applied chemical sclerosis
For special circumstances only: patients wherein surgery contraindicated or in patients who refuse surgery.
