Management of Spontaneous Pneumothorax
Interactive Web Site

Role of Computed Tomography of the Chest in Managing Spontaneous Pneumothorax

Key point: Computed tomography has more of a management role in patients with SSP than in those with PSP.

Using computed tomography is acceptable management in SSP:

  • that is recurrent (good consensus)
  • during management of an airleak (some consensus)
  • for planning a surgical intervention (some consensus)

No consensus achieved regarding use of computed tomography in:

  • first episodes of SSP
