Frequently Offered to Questionnaire Participants

  1. Observe for several hours, repeat a chest radiograph, and discharge home with close follow-up if the pneumothorax is stable or improving
  2. Admit to the hospital and observe
  3. Aspirate with a small percutaneous catheter (<14F), remove the catheter, repeat a chest radiograph, observe for several hours and send home with close follow-up
  4. Aspirate with a small percutaneous catheter (<14 F), remove the catheter, repeat a chest radiograph, and admit to the hospital
  5. Aspirate with a small percutaneous catheter (<14 F), attach to a one way valve device (e.g., Heimlich valve), repeat a chest radiograph, and send home with close follow-up
  6. Aspirate with a small percutaneous catheter (<14 F), attach to a one way valve device (e.g., Heimlich valve), repeat a chest radiograph, watch overnight in hospital and send home with close follow-up
  7. Place a chest tube (any size) and admit to the hospital
  8. Proceed to thoracoscopy during this hospitalization
