Table 10Management Recommendations for Patients with Primary Spontaneous Pneumothorax Selected for Observation
A young previously healthy patient with a primary spontaneous pneumothorax managed by observation should
- Be monitored in the emergency department for >3 h and <6 h (VG)* before discharge home.
- Have one chest radiograph (VG) performed, after the initial evaluation chest radiograph, during emergency department monitoring.
- Be seen in follow-up within 12 h to 2 days (G), after emergency department discharge, with a follow-up chest radiograph (VG).
