Essential Measures
Do not acquire a furred pet
If a pet is present, find it a new home
Secondary Measures
Restrict pet to outside only
Keep pet out of patient’s room
Encase pillows, mattresses, springs
HEPA air filter
Wash pet weekly
*Caveats: Pet removal is the only effective means of allergen reduction. It can take up to 6 months after a pet has been removed to see the impact of its allergen reduction.
