What is the American College of Chest Physicians
Critical Care Institute (ACCP-CCI)?
The ACCP-CCI is a center of excellence within the ACCP responsible for the development, distribution, and evaluation of critical care programs and products. With the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses as its founding partner, the ACCP- CCI houses the latest critical care education programs, research initiatives, and resources to support members, other health-care providers, patients, and families. Its goal is to promote excellence in the care of the critically ill.
How does the ACCP-CCI differ from or relate to critical care professional organizations?
As the ACCP-CCI evolves, it will work to develop projects and programs that specifically focus on caring for the critically ill patient. In contrast, many critical care professional organizations focus on the broad spectrum of critical care medicine. The ACCP-CCI will work with these other organizations, seeking to develop strong partnerships that will allow their members to participate in ACCP-CCI projects and have access to its programs.
How does the ACCP-CCI benefit me professionally?
Supported by the ACCP and its critical care partners, the ACCP-CCI is built on a foundation that represents the largest membership of critical care medical professionals in the world. The inclusion of its founding partner, the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, adds depth and value to the professional mix. Currently, over 75,000 health professionals representing the ICU patient care team comprise the ACCP-CCI. An important benefit is networking and consulting with the professionals who participate in the ACCP-CCI.
In addition, ACCP-CCI partners and members can take advantage of the projects and programs as they are offered.
Are new resources being developed by the ACCP-CCI?
As the ACCP-CCI moves forward, it will build on its existing critical care projects and programs while developing new initiatives. Future projects may include:
- Multidisciplinary Pain Management Consensus Statement & Toolkit
- An ICU procedure video/CD
- ICU pocket reference on commonly used drugs
- Featured critical care articles in the new CHEST Physician publication
Will ACCP-CCI advocate for critical care medicine?
Yes, the ACCP-CCI, with its current and future partners, will be a strong voice for critical care issues impacting patient care. With rising medical costs and a growing critical care workforce shortage, the ACCP-CCI will leverage its collective members to address the challenges ahead for medical professionals and their patients.
