Shortness of Breath Patient Education Brochure

The NetWork of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) is home to members who care for patients with general pulmonary illnesses. Our NetWork provides a contact point for physicians, both academic and practice based, who are not necessarily members of another disease specific NetWork.

Mission and Vision
To promote the educational and professional needs of clinical pulmonary practitioners within ACCP through a communication forum, networking, dissemination of patient and member information, and initiating consensus statements.

General Goals and Objectives
The ACCP Clinical Pulmonary NetWork will draw on NetWork membership expertise to promote the pulmonary well being of patients by providing useful professional and clinical information to our members. The Clinical Pulmonary NetWork will provide a NetWork affiliation for those ACCP members having a broader focus in pulmonary medicine than may be offered by more disease specific NetWorks.

This NetWork will be member driven with the goals and objectives open to member suggested changes required to meet the needs of the generalist pulmonary physician. This NetWork adaptability is necessary to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing clinical practice environment. This adaptability will be achieved by providing member requested information within our own NetWork, by providing links to pertinent information within other existing ACCP NetWorks, and by being open to member generated suggestions for change.

Specific Goals and Objectives

  • Provide a readily accessible entry point for the general pulmonary physician member to the many opportunities offered by the ACCP.
  • Provide an avenue for the practicing (nonacademic) pulmonary physician to have an active and acknowledged voice in the ACCP. This is especially important regarding the educational content offered at the yearly national meeting and other ACCP sponsored programs.
  • Provide member information through the Clinical Pulmonary NetWork and other ACCP NetWork contacts regarding specific daily practice issues such as information regarding evolving coding and reimbursement issues.
  • Provide a forum for open communication among colleagues regarding clinical and public health issues.
  • Serve as a source for topics for guideline development, dissemination, and implementation, as well as tools.
  • Serve as source of a variety of non-guideline educational tools for the member, including electronic versions of presentations aimed at general physician audiences, housestaff, medical students, etc., on non-specialized topics.
  • Provide these Clinical Pulmonary NetWork benefits to all ACCP members regardless of NetWork affiliation.
