Literature Reviews
Joe Ramsdell, MD, FCCP
Literature relevant to the home care of patients with cardiopulmonary disease tends to be spread out in various journals— some of which are not commonly read by members of the College. The goal of this column is to briefly review interesting articles appearing in the recent literature, with a focus on articles relevant to physicians, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, and others who care for cardiopulmonary patients in the home. The reviews are not meant to be comprehensive or stand alone but are intended to give the reader enough information to decide if they want to read the original article. Because of the decentralization of the home care literature, there are likely to be significant articles that are overlooked. Readers are encouraged to submit articles or topics that may have been missed. This column will be updated approximately every 6 months, and readers are encouraged to submit articles or topics to aslavlivorsi@chestnet.org (reviews from the years 2003-2005 are reprinted with permission from the American Academy of Home Care Physicians).
