Welcome to the Interventional Chest/Diagnostic Procedures (IC/DP) NetWork.

Our NetWork is experiencing an unprecedented growth in membership over the past few years. In large part, this is due to the development of exciting new technologies to treat a wide spectrum of benign and malignant pleural and pulmonary diseases. It also is due to the interest in, and demand for, information by pulmonary and cardiothoracic physicians caring for these patients. As a NetWork, we are committed to lead nationally and internationally in providing evidence-based reviews and guidelines and state-of-the-art educational material and courses; developing curriculum and training guidelines; and offering a forum in which our members can collaborate.

We have the unique opportunity of being in the forefront of earlier detection of lung cancer. The innovations in lung volume reduction for COPD and thermoplasty in the management of asthma have the potential to impact our patient population on a grand scale. There is a rise in the number of physicians seeking special training in the area of interventional pulmonology. Hence, the need for standardization and safety is paramount. Our NetWork will work diligently in all of these areas. The interventional cardiopulmonary community plays a vital and necessary role in the management of diseases we face daily with our patients.

You will notice some new developments on our Web page, including evidence-based, categorized recommended reading lists, Online Puzzler clinical cases, hot topics on the most up-to-date literature, and patient and physician education resources. These are all efforts to not only raise interest but also provide key information to our members with the primary goal of patient-focused care. We also will have many NetWork highlight sessions at CHEST 2008.

We encourage your participation and membership in both the ACCP and our NetWork. Students, nursing/bronchoscopy staff, residents, and fellows-in-training are especially welcome. The direction of our future is clearly shaped by the people we train today. Contact any of the Interventional Chest/Diagnostic Procedures NetWork leaders directly through the Steering Committee Web page. We look forward to working with you and hearing your ideas.
