Managing Cough as a Defense Mechanism and as a Symptom

TOC | Previous | Next

Don't spread infection

Remember that coughing spreads disease by dispersing germs through the air and on skin. You should always

  • cover your mouth and nose while coughing, and
  • if you cough into your hands or blow your nose, wash your hands immediately to remove germs deposited on the skin. If you have been covering your mouth while coughing, do not handle or prepare food until you have washed your hands.
