What makes cough useful and effective?

Normal nerve pathways in the respiratory tract, so cough can be stimulated when needed

Normal expiratory muscles such as the diaphragm and abdomen wall, so a strong "push" can be given to air in the lungs

Normal mucus stickiness, so mucus can be dislodged and expelled from airways by cough
