Use our new guide and activities to educate children
about asthma and tobacco use.
Now you can teach children about asthma and tobacco
use with a new guide from the ACCP Network on Cultural Diversity
in Medicine and Merck and Co. Inc.
Aimed at health professionals and other adults working
with children in grades 3 to 6, the Educational Guide on Lung
Health for Elementary School Students features lessons, handouts,
activities and resources. Lessons are designed for half-hour or
hour-long sessions, depending on the activities used. They may
be incorporated into health, science or social science classes
or used in after-school activities.
The asthma lessons help students develop a basic
understanding of the lungs and asthma and how they can support
classmates with asthma. The antitobacco unit not only shows students
how the lungs work and the health effects of smoking but also teaches
them ways to resist smoking.
You'll also find suggested group activities, including
role-playing, as well as written games, exercises and quizzes to
drive your points home.
