Government Relations
Government Relations Committee Mission Statement
The American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) Government Relations Committee is the official representative of the ACCP and its members before the executive and legislative branches of the federal government. This representation includes initiating, developing, and communicating patient-focused care policies to educate various branches of the government. These include, but are not limited to, health-care reform, tobacco control, other issues dealing with the prevention and treatment of diseases of the chest, and government-sponsored biomedical research.
The Committee solicits the views of ACCP members and clinical NetWorks in developing policies, and conversely, provides ongoing information to them about its efforts.
Position statements developed by the Committee are brought to the ACCP Board of Regents for its endorsement as official positions of the ACCP. The Committee also keeps the Board of Regents advised of its activities and all matters under its jurisdiction.
Advocacy Resources
The Advocacy Resources section of ChestNet is home to position papers, general advocacy information, and our online advocacy center, CapWiz. It is a resource for members to use with regard to issues important to the College and its members.
CapWiz will provide ACCP members with the latest information on issues we are tracking, assistance in identifying the Senators and Congressmen who represent them, and draft emails and letters that let them know our position on these issues. Enter your home zip code below to get started.
