Philanthropy and the CHEST Foundation

For the last 25 years, the CHEST Foundation has served as the philanthropic arm of CHEST, supporting our efforts to advance medicine through research and community impact grants, scholarships and fellowships, and grants that support early career professionals, especially those from diverse backgrounds. At CHEST 2022 in Nashville, donors, grant recipients, and friends of the CHEST Foundation celebrated all that has been accomplished.

Making an impact

Through the CHEST Foundation, donors have expanded our reach not only into the field of medicine, but also into communities. Throughout the year, we have shared updates on recipients of past grants, showing how they have affected the health and well-being of communities. Take the time to read some of these stories and be inspired.

Belmont Stakes Dinner and Auction

Returning to live events for the first time since the start of the pandemic, the CHEST Foundation Belmont Stakes Dinner and Auction was the premiere event of the year, bringing in more than $298,000. A new dimension to the event, besides the great fascinator fashion statements and auction items, was the after-hours meet-and-greet for fellow trainees. One of the hallmarks of CHEST is the collegial, community environment, which is for leadership, trainees, and friends alike. The event highlighted philanthropy's impact on patient care and invited patient advocates to speak.

Irv Feldman Texas Hold 'Em

The Irv Feldman Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament also returned in 2022 after supporting a series of online poker tournaments during the pandemic. Mitch Feldman, Foundation board member, noted that while virtual events were successful, there is nothing like in-person. Through the virtual events, the network of players extended beyond the Chicagoland area, and the Feldmans hope to launch another live tournament outside of the local area in 2023.
