Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: Implementing Team-Focused, Patient-Centered Practices in Medicine at #CHEST2017

By: Taylor Pecko-Reid

Clinical practice in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine is increasingly team based. As we continue to touch patients’ lives, most of our practices rely on a team of health-care providers with a wide variety of backgrounds and skill sets. This increased focus on providing a team-based approach to medical care has the potential to improve care even more.

At this year’s annual meeting, we are all about team-focused, patient-centered practices. At this year’s CHEST conference, #CHEST2017, we have found a trend of sessions and posters highlighting these team-based efforts and patient-centered practices. We’ve chosen a few to discuss at this month’s #pulmCC Twitter chat.

So whether you’re in Toronto, Tallahassee, or Tokyo, we hope you’ll join us!  Our chat will be held from Monday, October 30, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm EST. If you are attending CHEST 2017, please join us in person at the Sheraton Centre Hotel, Room Civic North (123 Queen St W) from 5:30 to 7:30 pm—we’ll have 1 hour for networking and snacks and an hour for the live Twitter chat!

Topics

T1: How can improving team-based care improve the patient experience? Do you have real-world examples?

T2: What strategies worked well for you? How can we ensure that our teams are working as effectively as possible?

T3: What are some barriers that prevent team-focused patient-centered care, & how have you overcome these?

T4: What else should we be doing? What in #pulmcc & #sleep is in particular need of improving team-based patient-centered care?
