CHEST is well-known for its educational offerings, and the CHEST Annual Meeting is a prime example of what the organization has to offer clinicians at every stage of their careers.
In anticipation of CHEST 2023 (October 8 to 11), Amy Morris, MD, FCCP, Chair of the Interdisciplinary/Practice Operations/Education Curriculum Group, shared what she is most looking forward to in Hawaiʻi.
The interdisciplinary/practice operations/education curriculum covers a variety of subtopics within pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine, including:
- Diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in medicine
- Educator development
- Education
- Business of medicine
According to Dr. Morris, the potentially overlooked business of medicine sessions are not to be missed, including “Instituting Change in Your Program: Leadership and Change Management for Clinicians and Educators” (Tuesday, October 10, at 7:15 am).
“There's a lot of science out there about change management and leadership specifically related to the field of medicine and medical leadership,” said Dr. Morris. “This is going to be a session that will be applicable to educators looking to innovate your curriculum or change something about your program. But it’s also a relevant topic for any clinician in a position of administration or leadership that has a say in change within your hospital or practice.”
Additional sessions in the interdisciplinary/practice operations/education curriculum include:
- Dial in to Telemedicine: New Perspectives
Sunday, October 8, at 1:30 pm
- Fostering Strong Mentorship: An Interactive Discussion in Four Acts
Sunday, October 8, at 1:30 pm
- Care of the Transgender Patient: From Terminology to Clinics to ICUs
Monday, October 9, at 3 pm
- Fierce Feedback: The Art of Giving Feedback in Difficult Situations
Tuesday, October 10, at 10:30 am
With its inclusive curriculum, there is sure to be something of interest for any clinician attending CHEST 2023. Whether you’re looking to become a better educator, further your knowledge of equity and inclusion, or better understand the business of health care, this is the curriculum for those already in a leadership position or looking to move into one.
