Introducing Congressional Action in Support of DEI

Following recent legislation introduced by Rep. Greg Murphy, MD, the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) joined 15 medical associations in putting forth a congressional resolution stressing the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in medical education.

The resolution serves as an expression of the sentiments of the U.S. House of Representatives and, if passed, will move to the Senate for consideration.

Formally introduced by Rep. Joyce Beatty, the resolution includes 19 points of support for DEI within medical education, including the point that there is a strong body of evidence that a diverse medical student body improves the educational, clinical, and research environments and that diversity increases access to care for communities that are medically underserved.
