Accreditation with Commendation Awarded to the American College of Chest Physicians

Glenview, IL– The American College of Chest Physicians®
(CHEST) has received accreditation with commendation from the Accreditation
Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and reaccreditation from
the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH).
This achievement grants CHEST reaccreditation through November 2029 and
places the organization in the highest tier of all continuing medical
education (CME) providers, including some of the nation’s most prestigious
medical schools and professional medical societies.

Notable courses and programs contributing to the accreditation with
commendation and reaccreditation included:

Interprofessional team activities like the difficult airway management
simulation course
designed to address the healthcare team’s clinical competence and
performance in addressing difficult airway cases in patient care. Like
many CHEST courses, Difficult Airway Management includes team-based
scenarios that incorporate every member of the care team.

Activities designed to optimize technical and procedural skills of
learners like CHEST live-learning course Ultrasonography: Essentials in
Critical Care which addresses clinical competence and performance in
using critical care ultrasonography in patient care. In this hands-on
activity, learners are evaluated on their technical and procedural
skills at the beginning and end of the course in a one-on-one
standardized assessment by a faculty member to help learners identify
and address gaps in learning during the activity.

The
Bridging Specialties™: Timely Diagnosis for ILD Clinician Toolkit
which includes resources and education utilizing the strengths of both
primary care clinicians and pulmonary experts designed to help identify
interstitial lung diseases (ILD) in their patients. The toolkit consists
of an ILD patient questionnaire, e-learning modules, an interactive
patient story, and radiology education videos.

Activities designed to optimize the communications skills of learners
including the
First 5 Minutes®
initiative which addresses communications skills during the patient
encounter focusing on techniques for opening the conversation,
exploration of the patient story, named emotions, and responding with
empathy. The communication skills of learners are evaluated in role-play
scenarios and are taught to build skills throughout the course while
aided by faculty observations and formative feedback in a checklist
evaluation form.
