A MESSAGE FROM OUR 2025 PRESIDENT AND CEO/EVP

In 2025, CHEST celebrated 90 years of advancing science, supporting clinicians, and improving patient care across thoracic surgery, pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine—continuing to shape the future of respiratory health.

Founded in 1935, CHEST was built on a simple but powerful principle: that evidence-based medicine is essential to high-quality patient care. For nine decades, that commitment to rigorous scientific discovery and its application in clinical practice has guided our education, research, publications, and advocacy. It remains the foundation of our work in today’s rapidly changing health care environment.

This year, more than 10,000 members and colleagues joined us in Chicago for the largest CHEST meeting in our history as well as the inaugural Love Your Lungs Day. Together, we expanded initiatives that support multidisciplinary care teams and shared clinical guidelines that help define best practices around the world.

We also celebrated important milestones for our journals, including the indexation of CHEST® Critical Care and CHEST® Pulmonary in the Directory of Open Access Journals and Scopus just two years after their launch—an important step in expanding access to high-quality scientific research.

CHEST also spoke clearly in defense of the diversity, inclusion, and equity in medicine and in support of the role of science in health care policy and decision-making.

At a time when scientific integrity is increasingly challenged, CHEST remains a strong and credible voice for research, clinical expertise, and patient-centered care.

Everything in this annual report reflects our enduring purpose: to improve patient care and outcomes. None of this would be possible without our members, who bring science to life through patient care every day.

Together, we will continue building on 90 years of impact—ensuring that science leads and patients remain at the center of all we do.

Thank you for being part of the CHEST community.
