Maximize Your Learning With One-of-a-Kind Experiences at CHEST 2022

In just a few short weeks, CHEST 2022 will kick off in Nashville, Tennessee. As the countdown gets closer to October 16, we’re spotlighting the most unique experiences you’ll find at the annual meeting.

Are we having fun yet?

Enjoying your learning experiences can help boost your information retention, so fun and entertainment are always integral to the annual meeting.

The Pardon the Interruption series hosted by CHEST President, David Schulman, MD, MPH, FCCP, returns for its fifth year at CHEST 2022. Participants will field rapid-fire questions on critical care, asthma, pulmonary vascular disease, and sleep medicine from Dr. Schulman, who will then play the colleague-competitors off of each other in a vigorous but good-natured conversation. The lively—and sometimes fervent—debates encourage learning in different ways than lectures do.

“We're looking to create new educational initiatives that aren't just on-the-stage lectures, but things that are a little bit more engaging,” said Dr. Schulman. “We want the audience to feel like they’re a part of a show, and we’re uniquely qualified at CHEST to pair fun and education.”

Learning by doing

Dr. Schulman also highlighted hands-on simulation sessions featuring CHEST’s state-of-the-art simulation technology.

CHEST 2022 will offer more than 2 dozen different simulation sessions, including new simulation courses on topics like airway challenges and managing patients with chronic tracheostomy tubes. Plus, you won’t want to miss the one-on-one, simulation-enhanced coaching clinic in direct laryngoscopy led by our expert airway faculty.

“One of the things we’ve become known for are the hands-on sessions,” said Dr. Schulman.

More than a dozen full- or half-day postgraduate courses will be offered Sunday, October 15—the day before general sessions begin. Four postgraduate courses will utilize interactive simulation technology. Check out our lineup of postgraduate courses, and add a course to your annual meeting registration.

Pleased to meet you

CHEST is a uniquely welcoming community, and leaders are known for their approachability. The annual meeting fosters a warm, collegial atmosphere where attendees can get to know peers, potential mentors, and leading experts in the field.

Dr. Schulman encourages attendees at all stages of their careers to introduce themselves to the leaders they want to meet.

“If you see one of us in the hallways, come over and say hello. We're there for the same reason you are—we want to hang out with other fun and interesting people,” he said. “What we love the most is getting to meet people.”

Another opportunity to get to know leaders is after sessions. If you have a question, hang out after the session and ask the presenter. Or, walk with them to their next session. Don't leave the meeting wishing you had talked to someone.

“People should never leave the annual meeting thinking, ‘I wish I had asked this question.’ We want to hear from you,” Dr. Schulman said. “There are so many people who want to help and teach.”
