Introduction to Pulmonary Hypertension

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a rare diagnosis, but one that is often delayed due to nonspecific symptoms. It is important to correctly diagnose PH and its underlying etiology in order to treat it appropriately.
The purpose of this video is to explain the anatomy and pressures of the right side of the heart, the component of the pulmonary catheter, the new definition of PH, the hemodynamic and clinical classification of PH, an algorithm for working up the problem step by step, and how to interpret the catheter waveform.

- Define and interpret right heart catheter waves
- Differentiate between precapillary, postcapillary and mixed pre-post capillary pulmonary hypertension
- Work up a patient with possible pulmonary hypertension according to the current guidelines
