Highlights from the journal CHEST^®, February 2023

Glenview, Illinois – Published monthly, the journal CHEST^® features peer-reviewed, cutting-edge original research in chest medicine: Pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine and related disciplines. Journal topics include asthma, chest infections, COPD, critical care, diffuse lung disease, education and clinical practice, pulmonary vascular disease, sleep, thoracic oncology and the humanities.

The February issue of the CHEST journal contains 37 articles, including clinically relevant research, reviews, case series, commentary and more. Each month, the journal also offers complementary web and multimedia activities, including visual abstracts, to expand the reach of its most interesting, timely and relevant research.

“Part of our equity topic collection, the second review on ‘Sex and Gender in Lung Diseases and Sleep Disorders' is published in the February issue,” says Editor in Chief of the journal CHEST, Peter Mazzone, MD, MPH, FCCP. “These reviews look at conditions that are more prevalent in women, such as pulmonary arterial hypertension and sarcoidosis, as well as life stages—such as pregnancy—that are unique to women and can affect the onset and course of lung disease. • Critical Care
  Original research, “Recall of Awareness During Paralysis Among ED Patients Undergoing Tracheal Intubation,” shows that a considerable proportion of patients undergoing emergency tracheal intubation report memories of awareness of paralysis. • Diffuse Lung Disease
  “Trajectories and Prognostic Significance of 6-Minute Walk TestParameters in Fibrotic Interstitial Lung Disease” finds that functional assessments using 6-minute walk tests in patients with fibrotic interstitial lung disease are important for evaluation of disease progression and prognostication. • Pulmonary Vascular
  Post hoc analysis of a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial, “Inhaled Treprostinil Dosage in Pulmonary Hypertension Associated WithInterstitial Lung Disease and Its Effects on Clinical Outcomes,” finds inhaled treprostinil at a dose of ≥9 breaths per session, four times daily, resulted in less clinical worsening and more clinical improvement. • Thoracic Oncology
  Looking at 7,369 actively smoking patients, “Factors Associated With Smoking Cessation Attempts in Lung CancerScreening” concludes pharmacologic treatment to aid in smoking cessation is effective and recommends it to be offered to all patients who smoke during lung cancer screening.
