CHEST launches publication focused on advocacy within health care

The inaugural issue of CHEST Advocates is available to readers

Glenview, IL – Focused entirely on advocacy within health care, the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) is launching CHEST Advocates, a digital publication highlighting key and emerging issues shared from a variety of diverse perspectives.

CHEST Advocates serves as an acknowledgment that policy is not enough to create change. Action is required. The publication will feature firsthand insights from clinicians advocating for improved patient care, those impacted by health issues and organizations fighting for better outcomes for their own communities. Actions that require awareness and investment to make a change will be discussed.

The first issue of CHEST Advocates includes:

"For some, advocacy is the crux of practicing medicine. Whether it is advocating for [their] patients, colleagues, community or themselves, they find meaning through clinical care, process improvement, writing grants, building programs, developing partnerships, conducting research, writing op-eds and influencing policies," says Drew Harris, MD, FCCP, Editor in Chief for CHEST Advocates. "This publication was created to celebrate these individuals, amplify their efforts and, hopefully, inspire others to act."

Delivered quarterly, each issue of CHEST Advocates will feature:

  • unique insights and practical recommendations from those impacted by or driving change in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine—including patients, clinicians and regulators;

  • news from CHEST and its partners on initiatives, resources and other efforts driving forward our mission of improving care for patients with lung disease; and more.
