GET TO KNOW YOUR LEADERSHIP
Q&A With Holly L. Keyt, MD, FCCP
Women in Chest Medicine (WiCM) Interest Group Steering Committee Member
CHEST member since 2012
May 14, 2026
Where do you work, and what is your current position?
University of Texas Health San Antonio, Medical Director of Lung Transplant Program.
What are your clinical and/or research interests?
Lung transplantation, advanced lung disease, cystic fibrosis, bronchiectasis, frailty/resilience in lung transplant candidates, and equity in access to lung transplant care.
What led you to join your Interest Group and become a Steering Committee member?
I joined the WiCM Interest Group because I value the power of community, mentorship, and sponsorship in advancing women’s careers in our field. As my career has progressed into leadership roles, I have seen both the opportunities and persistent structural barriers women face, particularly in high-acuity and traditionally male-dominated subspecialties like pulmonary and critical care medicine. I have been fortunate to have strong women leaders who have mentored and sponsored me throughout my career. These women modeled inclusive leadership and created opportunities that have shaped my professional path. I hope that through service on the WiCM Interest Group Steering Committee, I can pay it forward and help create space for connection, leadership development, and advocacy that supports women at all career stages and strengthens our profession overall.
How does this Interest Group enhance your experience as a CHEST member?
Being involved in WiCM Interest Group facilitates networking that is uniquely purposeful and supportive. Women in medicine often navigate challenges that we all face in isolation, but the WiCM Interest Group is a trusted space to develop connection and professional relationships that facilitate shared problem-solving. The group also provides a platform of advocacy that hopefully amplifies voices, advances leadership development, and helps translate individual experiences into broader change within CHEST and our profession.
Who or what has inspired you in your journey in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine?
Stephanie M. Levine, MD, Master FCCP, inspires me to believe that it is possible to not just have a career in pulmonary and critical care medicine but that women can truly thrive in this field. Through her leadership, example, and generosity as a mentor and sponsor, she inspires me to pursue excellence in pulmonary medicine.
What activities or hobbies do you enjoy that might surprise your colleagues?
Recently, I have been trying to nurture the creative part of my brain and have taken up watercoloring/nature journaling and playing the saxophone in a community band.
What is something you cannot live without (after family and friends)?
A plan for my next travel adventure and a good book.
