Where do you work?
I work as an intensivist at Crouse Health and serve as the APD for the Internal Medicine Residency Program and the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York.
What are your research interests and how does this apply to your position within the Networks?
My research interests include airway management in critically ill patients, mechanical ventilation, reparatory therapy innovation, and effective delivery of learning. As the Vice-Chair for the Mechanical Ventilation and Airways Management Section of the Critical Care Network, I look forward to encouraging a collaborative interdisciplinary effort to further the field and guiding upcoming clinicians and researchers.
How did you become interested and involved in the Critical Care Network?
At my first CHEST Annual Meeting during fellowship, I attended a Network meeting with a colleague to better understand how the CHEST Networks worked. I experienced the positive, welcoming, and committed environment that I have since come to expect of the organization. The rest, as they say, is history.
Are you involved in any other activities or volunteer positions at CHEST?
I serve on the Education Innovations Subcommittee, and I am Co-Chair of the Social Media Work Group. As an active member of the Mechanical Ventilation and Airways Management Domain Task Forces, I am involved in the simulation courses and creation of durable learning materials. And, of course, given my interest in education delivery innovation, I work closely with the educational team to build games, and I am particularly proud of the escape rooms we have been able to deliver at the CHEST Annual Meetings since 2019.
What clinical research is most interesting to you right now?
Evaluating factors and techniques to identify and mitigate physiologically difficult airways in critically ill patients.
What are your hobbies?
I love working out to stay healthy, reading all about history, watching the India national cricket team and the Buffalo Bills (only if we could win a Superbowl, right?), and spending time with my wife Lauren and our menagerie of pets.
What is something you cannot live without (after family and friends)?
Biryani (It’s my ultimate comfort food!)
Is there anything else you’d like to share with your Network peers?
Every idea has the potential for being actionable. Have an idea? Share with the Critical Care Network over email, during Network meetings, or at the annual meeting. We will work with you to fine-tune it, build it up, and execute it.
