Biden administration draws attention to lung cancer
November 3, 2022
The American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) commends the Biden
administration for issuing a
proclamation for lung cancer awareness month
that highlights the importance of lung cancer screening and commits to
increasing/preserving access to tobacco cessation programs.
From the statement:
I call upon the people of the United States to speak with their doctors
and health care providers to learn more about lung cancer. I encourage
citizens, government agencies, private businesses, nonprofit
organizations, the media, and other interested groups to increase
awareness about what Americans can do to prevent, detect, and treat
lung cancer….
“We are encouraged to see national attention being paid to lung cancer and
the disparate impact among rural communities and communities of color” says
David Schulman, MD, MPH, FCCP, President of the American College of Chest
Physicians. “Early detection and treatment are both critical for lung
cancer survival, screenings need to be recommended and made widely
accessible, and patients need to understand that early detection offers
hope.”
For lung cancer awareness month and throughout the year, we encourage you
to utilize the resources available to you through the CHEST website, and
sign up to stay in the loop on CHEST’s advocacy efforts.
