CHEST Joins Medical Organizations in Amicus Brief Supporting AAP Lawsuit to Protect Evidence-Based Vaccine Policy
October 15, 2025
CHEST joined 20 organizations in filing an amicus brief led by the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists in support of the plaintiffs in the case of American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) v. Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) Jr.
The case was originally filed in response to the Secretary of Health and Human Services’ directive to effectually restrict access to COVID-19 vaccination for pregnant individuals but was updated in early November 2025 to reflect the response to recent Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) actions.
ACIP, which provides formal recommendations for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention federal vaccine policies, began a series of actions in September to make changes to the recommended vaccine schedule that have raised widespread concern across the medical community. In the case of AAP v. RFK Jr, CHEST is supporting AAP’s request to the Court that ACIP be disbanded and reconstituted under court supervision, as well as reinforcing the principle that public health decisions must be lawful, transparent, and evidence-based.
