Supporting the Increasing Access to Lung Cancer Screening Act

CHEST has endorsed the bipartisan Increasing Access to Lung Cancer Screening Act, which would expand coverage for lung cancer screening with no cost sharing for patients. The act aims to align lung cancer screening with similar early detection cancer screenings currently covered by insurance.

CHEST supports this bill because eliminating financial barriers is a critical step toward increasing participation in lifesaving early detection programs. This is especially crucial for lung cancer screening, where only 18% of eligible individuals currently receive annual low-dose CT scans.1

Read a press release from US Representatives Kathy Castor (D-FL), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) about the bill.

Federal advocacy to support this bill is being led by the Early Lung Cancer Coalition, of which CHEST is an active member. The coalition is a policy advocacy coalition led by the LUNGevity Foundation and is composed of diverse interest holders, including health care associations, cancer centers, and patient advocate organizations.
