CHEST Is Honored With Two 2025 Power of Associations Awards
September 18, 2025
GLENVIEW, IL— The American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) has been recognized as a Power of Associations Silver Award winner by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) for two of its successful initiatives. CHEST’s First 5 Minutes®: Cultural Humility modules earned the Power of Conscious Inclusion Award, and the CHEST Community Connections program received the Power of Community Support Award.
The Power of Conscious Inclusion Award recognizes associations that advance equity and inclusion across workforce, governance, operations, and cultural competence programming. CHEST’s First 5 Minutes: Cultural Humility training modules equip health care providers with tools to foster respect, empathy, and inclusion in the earliest moments of patient interaction.
"The First 5 Minutes: Cultural Humility modules exemplify CHEST’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging,” said Robert Musacchio, PhD, CEO of CHEST. “The modules build on the foundation of the original First 5 Minutes program by addressing race, gender, bias, and other factors essential to relationship building. Beyond clinical knowledge, being a well-rounded clinician requires patience, empathy, and humility, which are skills this program reinforces in ways that may not always be taught in medical training. We are honored to be recognized for this important work.”
In its third year, at the CHEST 2025 Annual Meeting in Chicago, CHEST Community Connections will partner with the Chicago Asthma Consortium, Mobile Care Chicago, and CommunityHealth. The Community Connections program was created to both meaningfully engage with community health and service providers in the annual meeting host city and amplify the unique perspectives and community-minded solutions that these organizations are implementing for CHEST meeting attendees that they can apply in their own work.
"By design, Community Connections asks questions in place of offering solutions. We ask, ‘How can we help you do more,’ instead of saying, ‘This is what we are willing to give,’" said Elizabeth Stigler, PhD, Director of DEIB at CHEST. “As a nonprofit organization, we know that no one understands the needs of our association or our audience quite like we do, and we extend that same respect to our community partners.”
