Medical Educator Dr. Deepak Pradhan Named 2026 Mentor for PCCM Fellowship, Mentee Applications Now Open

The APCCMPD and CHEST Medical Educator Diversity Scholar Fellowship is open to fellows-in-training interested in pursuing a career as a medical educator in PCCM.

Glenview, Illinois – The American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) and the Association of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Program Directors (APCCMPD) are proud to announce that for the third year of the APCCMPD and CHEST Medical Educator Diversity Scholar Fellowship, Deepak Pradhan, MD, MHPE, FCCP, will be the mentor for 2026.

Designed to pair a fellow-in-training with an established medical educator, the unique scholarship was launched in August 2023 by CHEST and APCCMPD to improve diversity in respiratory care.

The program focuses on creating opportunities for fellows at institutions with limited resources to train in teaching, formal medical education curricula, and medical education research by providing them with mentorship at institutions that have the resources to foster their development.

Dr. Pradhan is Associate Professor (Scholar Track) in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine at New York University. He also has a master’s degree in health professions education through New York University and Maastricht University.

The mentee recipient of the scholarship will have the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Pradhan to develop a personalized curriculum to obtain the necessary training and expertise to launch their career as a medical educator in pulmonary and critical care medicine (PCCM). They will also work with Dr. Pradhan to develop a research project that supports their scholarly development.

“I am honored to provide individualized, long-term mentorship to physicians-in-training, and I am grateful to CHEST and APCCMPD for the opportunity to work with someone who may not otherwise have access to the resources needed to thrive,” says Dr. Pradhan. “Together, we will focus on goal setting, collaborative documentation, scholarly growth, and mutual reflection. Most importantly, I look forward to supporting the mentee in achieving their unique aspirations.”

To qualify for the mentee role of the new scholarship, an applicant must be an active member of both CHEST and APCCMPD; must be a fellow in a pulmonary, critical care, and/or PCCM fellowship training program that is a member of the APCCMPD; and must meet specific requirements:

  • Has a commitment to pursue a career as a medical educator in PCCM and to mentor future trainees pursuing a career in medical education
  • Is training at an institution with limited medical education training opportunities, resources, or mentors
  • Possesses unique qualities and has had experiences that can contribute to the educational environment
