CHEST and APCCMPD Announce Chosen Mentor for Diversity PCCM Fellowship and Open the Call for Mentee Applications

The APCCMPD and CHEST Medical Educator Diversity Scholar Fellowship is open to fellows-in-training interested in pursuing a career as a medical educator in PCCM.

Glenview, IL – The American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) and the Association of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Program Directors (APCCMPD) are proud to announce that Anna Brady, MD, will be the 2027 mentor for the fourth year of the APCCMPD and CHEST Medical Educator Diversity Scholar Fellowship.

The program focuses on creating opportunities for fellows at resource-stretched institutions to train in teaching, formal medical education curricula, and medical education research by giving them mentorship at institutions with those resources to foster their development.

Designed to pair a fellow-in-training with an established medical educator, the unique scholarship was launched in August 2023 by CHEST and APCCMPD to improve diversity in respiratory care.

Dr. Brady is an Associate Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina, where she is also Associate Program Director for the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM) Fellowship as well as a member of the APCCMPD Ambulatory Curriculum Workgroup and Education Committee.

The mentee recipient of the scholarship will have the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Brady to develop a personalized curriculum to obtain the necessary training and expertise to launch their career as a medical educator in PCCM. They will also work with Dr. Brady to develop a research project that supports their development.

“Medical education has been an important part of my career since fellowship, both locally and nationally, and I continue to find it incredibly rewarding,” Dr. Brady said. “Working with fellows is the best part of my job. I’m grateful for the opportunity from CHEST and APCCMPD to mentor someone from outside my own institution, broaden that exchange of perspectives, and provide individualized guidance that supports a fellow’s unique goals and the career path they envision.”

To qualify for the mentee role of the new scholarship, applicants must be an active member of CHEST and be training at a fellowship program that is a member of the APCCMPD; must be a 1st-year fellow-in-training in a 2-year fellowship training program or a 1st- or 2nd-year fellow-in-training in a 3-year fellowship training program at an accredited Pulmonary, Critical care, or Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowship; and must meet certain requirements, including:
