Oksana Shlobin, MD, FCCP, who is the Chair of CHEST’s Pulmonary Vascular and Cardiovascular Network and has been a CHEST member for more than 20 years, is excited about the educational program lineup for CHEST 2025, which takes place in Chicago from October 19 to 22.

“Our goal for CHEST 2025 was to ensure the curriculum will offer learning opportunities for everyone,” she said. “There are sessions that target practitioners who are just starting their careers and need to get updates on the latest publications. And then we have courses that target seasoned practitioners. I really think the CHEST meeting is a place where anyone can come and learn and have a lot of fun.”

The learning opportunities for pulmonary vascular and cardiovascular disease professionals will be abundant, said Dr. Shlobin.

“A recent breakthrough drug that has revolutionized the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension will be covered through a series of exciting debates,” she noted. “Other sessions will focus on hard-to-treat topics in pulmonary vascular disease, such as pulmonary hypertension with cardiovascular comorbidities and pulmonary hypertension in the setting of interstitial lung diseases and in the setting of sarcoidosis. Another session will focus on pulmonary manifestations in patients who have cirrhosis.”

Sessions dealing with venous thromboembolism will include unexplained dyspnea after pulmonary embolism, how to build a pulmonary embolism response team, and treatment of acute pulmonary embolisms. Dr. Shlobin is particularly excited about a comprehensive multispecialty symposium on chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, with experts discussing new radiographic diagnostic modalities, balloon pulmonary angioplasty, and pulmonary thromboendarterectomy.

In addition, sessions on right ventricular failure and shock, with a focus on point-of-care ultrasound and mechanical circulatory support, are sure to attract a critical care-minded audience.

The schedule also features more advanced topics, like advanced hemodynamics and clinical trial design. “These may not be pertinent to everyday practice for a clinician who is seeing patients day in and day out, but they really expand your horizons and your knowledge and the way you think about pulmonary vascular diseases,” she added.

CHEST 2025 will also offer a multitude of simulation sessions, and Dr. Shlobin said this year’s offerings are going to be phenomenal. “I highly encourage people to look at those courses and also the postgraduate courses and Master Classes,” she said. “You’ll have the opportunity to get advanced, hands-on learning all in one space, all at one time.”
