Course Description

Play Dr. Neb and put your skills as a pulmonologist to the test by building relationships with patients with COPD and helping make difficult long-term care treatment choices. This game spans five scenarios in three patients. It is recommended that these scenarios are played in sequence.

Course Objectives

Describe the GOLD Guidelines for initial pharmacological treatment, including LAMA, LABA, bronchodilators, ICS, and combinations.
List non-pharmacological treatment options for patients with COPD, including pulmonary rehabilitation.
Identify the timing and indications for re-assessing a patient’s treatment plan.
Describe the GOLD Guidelines for follow-up pharmacological treatment, including LAMA, LABA, bronchodilators, ICS, antibiotics, and combinations.
Compare and contrast the delivery mechanisms in common devices, including nebulizers and standard inhalers.
Describe the facts that counter common patient myths of nebulizers.
List the challenges a patient may face with common devices.
Explain the role respiratory therapists serve in treatment management.

Physician Credit

The American College of Chest Physicians is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The American College of Chest Physicians designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nursing Credit

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 16433, for 1.0 contact hours.

Nurse Practitioners

The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program (AANPCP) accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by the ACCME. Individuals are responsible for checking with the AANPCP for further guidelines.

Maintenance of Certification Statement

Successful completion of this CME activity enables the participant to earn up to 1.0 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC points.

Upon successful completion of this course, CHEST will submit your completion data to ABIM via ACCME's Program and Activity Reporting System (PARS) for MOC points. Please allow 3-5 business days after claiming for points to be reflected on your ABIM record.
