Community Service Grants
In 1998, D. Robert McCaffree, MD, Master FCCP, created the Governors Community Service Awards during his term as the President of the American College of Chest Physicians. Support is given to nonprofit and nongovernmental agencies in which health care professionals generously donate their time and medical expertise.
Distinguished Scholar Grant
The Eli Lilly and Company Distinguished Scholar in Critical Care Medicine is expected to complete an investigative project that has significant impact on critically ill patients. The scholar is encouraged, but not required, to take advantage of the extensive resources of CHEST, such as the following: (1) collaborations with leaders in the CHEST Critical Care NetWork or various steering committees; (2) CHEST educational material; or (3) CHEST simulation resources. Projects must also demonstrate how they will have a positive impact on the lung health of a community (e.g. community identity, community needs, community impact).
The Eli Lilly and Company Distinguished Scholar in Critical Care Medicine will have a 3-year opportunity to examine issues that relate to critically ill patients. The grant is intended to permit the investigation of issues that are not easily supported by traditional, shorter-term funding opportunities.
Research Grants
Each year, the CHEST Foundation seeks to support our members by hosting research grants with community-focused projects. Scientific research projects must also demonstrate how they will have a positive impact on the lung health of a community (e.g. community identity, community needs, community impact). Since our first grant award in 1996, we have awarded $7.2 million in support of 43 different research topics around the world. Through our grant-making efforts, we aim to embolden young investigators seeking research funding and support projects that will lead to breakthroughs in the treatment of chest diseases and patient care.
